Facial Thirds

The thirds split the face into upper, middle and lower bands. The reference proportions are 0.191, 0.395 and 0.414 — which is visibly not the textbook one-third each. The reason is stated plainly below, because a facial ratio analysis that hides it is measuring against a number it cannot reach.

Why the Upper Third Is 0.191, Not 0.333

The classical rule describes anatomical landmarks, including the hairline. What the detector returns is a mesh vertex near the middle of the forehead, not a hairline. Measured that way, the canonical face itself shows an upper third of 0.191. Grading against 0.333 would deduct the same points from every face on earth, including the reference face, so the upper third is flagged as estimated and graded against the value that was actually measured.

Facial Fifths

The fifths split face width into five vertical bands, nominally one eye-width each. The reference is 0.210, 0.169, 0.242, 0.169, 0.210. That the first and fifth match to the digit, and the second and fourth likewise, is not a coincidence — it is evidence that the left and right landmark indices are paired correctly, and the sanity test in the engine checks exactly that.

Face Proportions, Scored

Each group produces one deviation from its reference, and each deviation is mapped to its own 0–100 sub-score. Facial thirds reach the half-point at a deviation of 0.045 and facial fifths at 0.040, so the fifths are graded slightly more tightly. Both carry 25% of the composite.

Limits of Front-View Ratios

Every proportion here is measured in the image plane. Nasal projection, facial convexity and chin projection are not scored, because they are depth measurements and this engine accepts a front view. A photo that is turned, tilted, too small, or contains more than one face is rejected instead of being measured badly.

What does facial ratio analysis measure?+

Two groups: the facial thirds, which divide face height into upper, middle and lower bands, and the facial fifths, which divide face width into five vertical bands. Each group is compared against reference proportions measured from the engine’s canonical face.

Why are the reference thirds not one third each?+

Because the upper boundary available to the detector is a forehead mesh vertex, not a hairline. The canonical face measures 0.191 there, so 0.191 is the reference. The value is labelled estimated in every result for that reason.

Are the facial fifths really one eye-width each?+

Not on the canonical face. The measured reference is 0.210, 0.169, 0.242, 0.169, 0.210 — the central band between the eyes is the widest, and the outer bands are wider than the eye bands.

How much do the ratios affect my overall score?+

Facial thirds carry 25% and facial fifths carry 25%, so the two ratio groups together are half of the composite. Symmetry carries 35% and the golden-ratio group carries 15%.

Can I see the raw proportions, not just the score?+

Yes. Every measured band is displayed next to the reference band it was compared against, including the one flagged as estimated.
